In the summer of 2015, I began two new series of paintings, "Places Of Glow And Sorrow" and "Travelers of Glow and Sorrow", both of which take a closer look at sites around the globe where human activity has left an indelible mark on our contemporary psyche.  I began each series with a strong sense of urgency as domestic, global, and environmental issues began to unravel at an accelerated rate, causing rapid change by erasing the progress made over the past 50 some years.

My journey is to find the threads that hold the pieces together, and the tears that have been exacted on the cultural fabric. These locations, when examined through the wide lens of conflicts that have engulfed the world, form a fertile yet harsh ground for reflection and consideration. AK
